With Liverpool pouncing on Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur’s setbacks at the weekend, The Reds have clawed their way back firmly into the race for fourth spot in the Premier League. Although the side have played a game more, manager Rafael Benitez insists his team still have a legitimate shot at qualifying for the Champions League next season.

I think we have a chance so we will try," said the Spanish tactician on the league’s official website. "We know they (Tottenham and City) still have one game in hand but we are close and we will try our best. Maybe the best results for us is for them to draw and then if we can get six points we will have to see,” he continued. "If we finish on 68 points we will have a chance because we will have better goal difference.”

Failure to qualify for the Champions League next season would be disastrous for the Merseyside giants, but with the recent slip-ups of the better positioned teams, the prospect of missing Europe’s most prestigious club tournament could still be avoided.
