According to France Football, Real Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder has agreed terms to join Bundesliga side Schalke after the end of the current season. The German centre-back, despite being a regular fixture in the German national team, has found appearances very hard to come by with Los Blancos, and has decided to part ways with the Spanish giants when his contract expires at the end of June.
Metzelder was initially tipped to join German side Wolfsburg, but negotiations broke down, leading to Schalke pouncing on the opportunity to tie up the coveted 29-year-old.
The former Borussia Dortmund standout has managed only a meagre 31 appearances for Real Madrid since his transfer in 2007, and has decided to seek regular football in his homeland.
