Former Liverpool and France boss Gerard Houllier will not be making a return to management with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, according to reports in L’Equipe. The ex-Anfield boss was strongly linked with the job of head coach at the current German champions but has apparently decided against moving eastwards.

Houllier, who Wolfsburg believed could set them back on the right path next season after a terrible campaign, has supposedly cited personal reasons for deciding to turn down what he admitted was an offer from a club "operating in a very attractive championship."

The interest from Wolfsburg in the 62-year-old highlights just how highly regarded the former Liverpool manager still is within continental Europe and it is likely when he does choose to return to the dugout the Frenchman will have no shortage of options.
