Liverpool’s new chairman, Martin Broughton, has explained to the club’s supporters that he won’t be at Anfield to cheer The Reds on against Chelsea this Sunday. Broughton, who was recently drafted in by US owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks to help sell the club, is a self-confessed lifelong Chelsea fan and believes his presence at the stadium would not be appropriate.

"Any true fan who has supported a club for 55 years like I have, can’t be expected to suddenly move against them overnight", Broughton explained to Liverpool’s official site. "I can’t come to the match on Sunday and show any of that emotion because that would be very disrespectful to the Liverpool faithful."

Chelsea head to Anfield knowing that two wins from their final two games would see the Premier League title swap trophy cabinets, from Old Trafford to Stamford Bridge. Liverpool meanwhile have a very slim chance of picking up fourth spot, but know a win against Chelsea would most likely hand the title to bitter rivals Manchester United, who would then surpass The Reds 18 league championships mark.
