Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has revealed he would be shocked if Fabio Capello doesn’t include defender Ledley King in the England squad. According to France Football, the former Portsmouth boss said, “He (King) is certain to go to the World Cup. Look at how he played at Old Trafford, he was our best player. I would be surprised if he does not make the team.”
Few have ever doubted the talented centre-back’s skill, but question marks remain on the defender’s ability to remain fit during the tournament. King has suffered from well-publicised knee problems for some time now, and is incapable of playing twice in one week.
Despite his fitness issues, Redknapp insists the player should be a certainty in the England squad, if not as a starter, but a reliable back-up to first-choice duo John Terry and Rio Ferdinand.
