Manchester City have been handed a timely boost ahead of their crunch midweek clash with Tottenham Hotspur, with news that influential midfielder Gareth Barry could recover in time from a hamstring strain to feature in what could be the decisive match in the race for the final Champions League spot.

Although manager Roberto Mancini admits that Stephen Ireland is out for the massive game, he reveals on the club’s official website, "Gareth will work with the team in training today. We will see how that goes and we will leave a decision about him until the day of the game. I’m hopeful he will recover in time for tomorrow, but it is a case of seeing how training goes for him before then.”

A win would put Man City firmly in the driving seat to finish fourth in the Premier League, with the side having to play lowly West Ham United in their last game of the season.
