Although Bayern Munich manager Louis van Gaal admits he “would not have done what Mourinho did in the Nou Camp in Barcelona,” the Dutchman can do little to hide his awe of the outspoken Portuguese tactician, who was once his assistant with the Catalan giants. “At that time he was very humble. It was beautiful to see his progress and how he was becoming a personality.”
It will be a case of student against the teacher when Inter Milan clash with Bayern Munich in the Champions League final at the Santiago Bernabeu, with both managers desperate to bring back European glory to their massive clubs.
Van Gaal reveals there is a significant difference between his style and Mourinho’s, as he claims, that while the Inter boss sets out to win matches, he sets out to triumph in games with attractive football – a task the Bayern manager deems more difficult.
