According to Liverpool’s official website, Slovakia’s World Cup hopes have been handed a significant boost with word that Martin Skrtel is ready to return to full training today, following a metatarsal break back in February.
The 25-year-old centre-back helped Slovakia qualify for their first World Cup campaign, which will kick off with a match against New Zealand on June 16. Led by Vladimir Weiss, the tournament rookies were very impressive in qualifying, where they topped a group which included the likes of Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Northern Ireland.
Skrtel’s return to fitness well before the start of the tournament in South Africa will certainly be a welcome bonus for Slovakia, who will want the Liverpool regular at 100% for the historic campaign.
