Manchester United have confirmed that 22-year-old Jonny Evans will be tied to the club until at least 2014, after the talented defender signed a new four-year extension. The Northern Ireland international became a vital player for the Red Devils last season, and has continued to show his importance in the side in the current campaign.
Sir Alex was delighted with the centre-back’s extension, saying on the club’s official website, "We are delighted Jonny has signed a new contract. Jonny has risen through the United ranks to become an integral part of the first-team squad, he is an intelligent defender and has been excellent in the central defensive positions at key times during the season."
With 31-year-old Rio Ferdinand struggling for fitness lately, Evans is seen as the long-term successor to the England international.
