Bayern Munich warmed up for their huge Champions League final meeting with Inter in great style by clinching the Bundesliga title yesterday. A 3-1 defeat of Hertha Berlin was enough to confirm what had seemed certain beforehand, that the Allianz Arena side would win their 22nd Bundesliga crown.
For Dutch coach Louis van Gaal the title win is a great personal achievement, especially as at points in the season his position was openly brought into question. Van Gaal has now won the German title, Dutch title and Spanish title, as he cements his place as one of the top coaches in the game.
The Dutchman was also in no doubt that his side deserved the title and were an example to the entire German league.
"We really deserved the championship," said van Gaal. "We played the most attractive football in the Bundesliga and I think people will remember the Bayern team of 2010."
