According to BBC Sport, Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has come out of international retirement, and is set to be part of the 23-man squad England send to the World Cup in June. His unexpected return to the Three Lions set up has many questioning whether the captain Rio Ferdinand, will be fit for the tournament.
The Man Utd first-choice centre-back has made only 21 appearances this season, as was constantly plagued with fitness issues. His uncertain injury situation has caused England manager Fabio Capello to bring in Carragher, who retired from internationals in 2007 after disappointing European Championships 2004 and World Cup 2006 campaigns.
Tottenham Hotspur’s injury-prone Ledley King is also being considered for a place in the squad, after an impressive run of performances as the season came to a close.
