Plenty of eyebrows were raised after coach Diego Maradona named Argentina’s provisional 30-man World Cup squad, as plenty of big names were left out. Most notable omissions would undoubtedly be Inter Milan’s veteran duo of Esteban Cambiasso and Javier Zanetti.
Also interestingly missing from the list are Real Madrid’s Fernando Gago, Olympique Marseille’s Lucho Gonzalez, and Ligue 1 Player of the Year Lisandro Lopez of Olympique Lyon.
The Argentinean hero has opted instead to select lesser known individuals with very little international experience, such as Sebastian Blanco and Ariel Garces, who play in the nation’s top flight and only have three caps between them. Defender Fabricio Coloccini, who plays for newly-promoted Newcastle United, has also been included in the list.
