Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel, who has just recently recovered from a metatarsal break, is in a race against time in order to prove his fitness ahead of the World Cup. The Slovakian international claims on the club’s official website, “It is a proud moment for my country to have qualified and I hope to be there with them."
The 25-year-old defender played only 26 games this season due to fitness issues, but is determined to enjoy an injury-free World Cup in June. "It has been a very frustrating time for me being injured and not being available for Liverpool but all I can do is wait and see,” he said.
Skrtel, who picked up the injury back in February, was included as a substitute in Liverpool’s last game of the season, positive signs that the centre-back will be fully fit come the tournament in South Africa.
