Although Robbie Fowler will always have, what he describes as a “soft spot” for current Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez for bringing him back to the club in 2006, the 35-year-old has hinted that the Spanish tactician’s time at Anfield maybe should be coming to an end.

"I just want Liverpool to do well, whether it’s Rafa there or someone else there I don’t really mind,” Fowler said to BBC Sport. “First and foremost Liverpool is Liverpool and I think we deserve to be top of the table every year.”

2006’s FA Cup triumph was the last time Liverpool won anything significant under Benitez, a drought that is simply unacceptable for such a massive club. And after such a disastrous 2009/10 season that saw the Reds dumped out of the Premier League top four, the time for the former Valencia boss to move on, may have just finally come.
