Eric Abidal is set to finish the season where he started it, as Barcelona’s first-choice left-back. The French defender was enjoying his usual impressive form early in the campaign, but a thigh injury saw him sidelined for a extended period of time, ruining his momentum.
The defender, who last played against Arsenal in a seven-minute cameo in the Champions League quarter-finals, suffered two failed comebacks during his recovery, but is now looking ready to return to first-team action.
With Abidal’s replacement Maxwell picking up an injury in Barca’s last game against Sevilla, the French international has a chance to finish the season on a high note. After struggling through all the rehabilitation, the defender has the opportunity to start in a match that could end with his club being crowned La Liga champions.
