With the World Cup barely a month away, manager Fabio Capello could be set to change England’s formation from a traditional 4-4-2, to a 3-5-2. The Italian is believed to be prepared to make the switch to a three-man backline, should Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry fail to be fully fit for South Africa.

"England’s World Cup starts four weeks on Saturday and there is a chance they could start with three central defenders against the USA in Rustenburg [on 12 June]," reported BBc Radio 5 live’s Ian Dennis.

The Three Lions played a similar system to disastrous results back in 2006 under Steve McClaren, but the former Real Madrid manager is convinced he will not be making the same mistakes.
