Juan Manuel Mata, despite being contracted to Valencia until 2012, is already being linked with a move to Barcelona, according to Catalan daily Sport. The player’s agent claims manager Josep Guardiola has asked about the availability of his client, and that the boss of the Catalan giants is a huge admirer of the crafty winger.

22-year-old Mata has been magnificent for Valencia, particularly in the last two seasons, and is believed to be looking for a means to increase his value at the club. The Spanish international scored 11 goals in 42 matches for Los Che this campaign.

Despite his agent fuelling rumours of interest from Barca, Mata claims he will not be drawn in to any transfer speculation, saying, "It’s always the same thing at this stage of the season. Teams and names will become linked, but with the World Cup ahead I will not focus on those things. I have asked to be moved.”
