England captain Rio Ferdinand claims single-minded dedication was behind Nani’s upturn in form after the Christmas period. The Portuguese winger enjoyed an extended run in the side in the second half of the season, after a string of impressive performances showed his immense talent.

He’s a young player learning the game and he’s got his head down and worked, really knuckled down. He’s seen the benefits of that by becoming an effective part of the team,” Ferdinand said on the club’s official website. “The important thing is he’s producing an end product – scoring goals and setting up chances. Because of that he’s getting a consistent run in the team and any player benefits from that.”

Nani was a frustrated figure at Old Trafford before his resurgence, as pressure to fill Cristiano Ronaldo’s boots seemed to have gotten the better of him. The youngster looks more confident in his own abilities now though, and is on the verge of becoming a regular on the Man Utd flanks.
