Robin van Persie’s recent return to fitness was a big boost to Arsenal, as the Dutchman is the key figure in the side’s devastating attack. With the Premier League officially in the off-season, the 26-year-old has expressed his desire for another vital member in the squad to remain with the Gunners.
"He is one of those characters you need in a squad – when someone is easing off he just tells you, ‘listen, this is not the way to do it. Sharpen up because otherwise this isn’t going to work,’” said van Persie, expressing his admiration for veteran defender Sol Campbell. "We need that and that is why I am very pleased that he is here. When you look at when he came and the way he ended the last couple of months – fantastic.”
The 35-year-old centre-back’s shot-term contract ends this summer, but is likely to be extended after an impressive return to the club back in January.
