Togo will be free to compete in the next African Cup of Nations, after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed that they had reinstated the nation. The side were initially banned after they pulled out of the 2010 Nations Cup, following a deadly attack on their team’s bus.
A statement on the Caf website read: “Following the lifting of the sanction, Togo is now reintegrated in the preliminaries of the African Cup of Nations 2012."
There was widespread frustration at the Caf’s decision to suspend Togo after their horrific experience in the recent Afrcian Cup of Nations, especially as it was the nation’s government that had ordered the team to abandon the tournament and return home. The deadly bus attack left three dead and numerous wounded.
