Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is full of praise of “well deserved” Barclays Golden Gloves winner Pepe Reina, who he describes as “a fantastic keeper.” The Spanish shot-stopper won the award for the fourth time in the last five years, tying Chelsea’s Petr Cech with 17 clean sheets this season.

"When we need him, he is there,” the under-fire coach continued on the club’s official website. “He is a modern goalkeeper who can play outside of the box too. He is more of a sweeper than a keeper – but if you need him to be a keeper, he is one of the best."

Reina has been a standout for the Reds since his transfer from Villarreal back in 2005, proving to be a absolute rock in Liverpool’s backline.
