After one full season with Barcelona, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is facing an uncomfortable summer break, as speculation continues regarding his future with the record-breaking side. Despite scoring 21 goals and making 10 assists in 41 matches for the Catalan giants, the club’s supporters still feel the Swede has not done enough to justify his massive transfer fee last summer.
Ibrahimovic’s move to Barca was a player swap plus cash deal, worth in the region of €69M – making it the second highest transfer fee in football history. The move saw Samuel Eto’o and Alexander Hleb (loan) make the switch to Italy, with an extra €46M needing to be shelled out in order to capture the former Juventus player.
With such a price-tag weighing over his head, expectations were always going to be very high for Ibrahimovic. And with David Villa rumoured to be on his way to Barca, the towering Swede could find himself in the uncomfortable position of sitting on the bench next season. Manchester City and Chelsea are reported to be tracking the player’s availability.
