Just hours after the Spanish press revealed that Barcelona and Valencia had likely come to an agreement over the transfer of David Villa, the Catalan giants have confirmed that the prolific striker is indeed going to be plying his trade at the Camp Nou next season.
A statement on the club’s official website read: “FC Barcelona and Valencia have closed this morning the agreement for the transfer of player David Villa to the club. The cost of the transfer was €40M.”
The 28-year-old Spanish international is expected to be unveiled on Friday, having signed a four-year deal with an option for a one-year extension. The capture of the top scorer of the 2008 European Championships puts striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future in uncertainty, as he failed to live up to the high expectations set for him after his high-profile transfer last summer.
