Manchester United have confirmed that they have accepted a bid from Birmingham City for goalkeeper Ben Foster. The former Stoke custodian failed to impress as number one early last season, and found himself on the bench for most of the campaign. Having expressed his desire to get regular football elsewhere, the Red Devils have agreed to let the 27-year-old go.
"I think Ben deserves the opportunity to do better for himself. That’s the reason we accepted the offer,” manager Sir Alex Ferguson explained on the club’s official website. “I still feel very strongly about this… I think he’s the best English goalkeeper in England.”
With the imminent departure of Foster, plenty have expected Man Utd to sign a replacement, but Ferguson has announced that 20-year-old reserve keeper Ben Amos would be stepping in as the new third-choice keeper.
