Real Madrid have confirmed that long-term injury victim Pepe is relatively on course to recover from a torn ACL just in time to play for Portugal in the World Cup in June. The defender suffered the unfortunate knee injury back in December, and was expected to make a recovery in six months.

Currently, Pepe is two weeks away from finishing his individual rehabilitation, a phase that is immediately followed by a readaptation process that will allow the player to incorporate himself in the team setting.

The club’s medical staff is confident the player will be fit sooner rather than later, citing the defender’s work ethic as a massive factor, "Pepe trains two to three hours a day on the pitch and in the gym. Sometimes he combines it with double sessions of physiotherapy and muscle relaxation,” explained the team doctor Carlos Diez on the club’s official website.
