Aston Villa have confirmed that they have rejected a bid from Manchester City for midfielder James Milner. The former Newcastle United talent has blossomed into a solid all-around player under manager Martin O’Neill, and the Villains are not likely to let such a gem get away so easily.
A statement on Villa’s official website read: “We have received an offer from Manchester City and this has been firmly rejected. We plan to sit down with James Milner and his representative after the World Cup to agree a new long-term deal and this remains our position.”
Milner was very impressive in the last season, and many people noticed, as he found himself in the Professional Football Association’s Team of the Year. The 24-year-old is also very likely to be selected by Fabio Capello for the final 23-man England squad for the World Cup.
