English referee Howard Webb has been handed a huge honour by being appointed by the UEFA Referees Committee as the man to take charge of the Champions League final between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich on Saturday. The 38-year-old has been an international referee since 2005, officiating 47 UEFA matches so far in his career.
At the final, Webb will be assisted by his countrymen Michael Mullarkey, Darren Cann, and Martin Atkinson, who will be the fourth official.
The Champions League final will be the Englishman’s most prestigious match in charge as a referee. Webb has plenty of experience refereeing at the highest level, taking charge of 19 previous games in the tournament, in addition to officiating in the 2008 European Championships and the 2010 World Cup Qualifying campaign.
