With the confirmation that Laurent Blanc will be leaving Bordeaux to become Raymond Domenech’s successor as France manager, the club are searching for an adequate replacement. After rumours linking 2008/09 Ligue 1 champions with a host of coaches, their sights have been set on Auxerre manager Jean Fernandez.

The 55-year-old is under contract with his team until 2011 though, and the management have already signalled their intent to continue their progress under the former Olympique Marseille manager. It is believed that Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud isn’t giving up though, and will be doing all in his power to convince Fernandez to make the switch.

According to L’Equipe, recently sacked West Ham United manager Gianfranco Zola could be the perfect replacement to the highly-rated Laurent Blanc should the attempt to lure Fernandez away from Auxerre fail.
