After injuring his ankle at the end of the Premier League season, Gareth Barry has been hard at work trying to return to full fitness ahead of the World Cup in June. England’s campaign kicks of on the 12th of next month, and the former Aston Villa captain is hopeful he will be fit by then.
“It’s too early to assess just yet as to whether I’ll make it, I’ll just have to keep having the treatment and see how things go over the next week or so,” Barry admitted on the club’s official website. “But I’m feeling positive still and the medical staff are being brilliant – they are doing everything they can to help me.”
Barry has been a regular fixture under England manager Fabio Capello, proving that he has truly developed into a world class player. Should he prove his fitness in time, the Manchester City midfielder will be off to his first ever World Cup.
