Barcelona sporting director Txiki Begiristain has revealed that the Camp Nou giants have made contact with Arsenal over the possible transfer of Cesc Fabregas. Speculation has been building surrounding a possible transfer following repeated admissions from the Spaniard that he would welcome a move back to his boyhood club.

"We contacted Arsenal to ask if they are willing to negotiate", said Begiristain to Catalan daily Sport, "and we are expecting an answer".

While Barcelona have declared their intention to be respectful of Fabregas’s long-term contract at Arsenal, it has been suggested that personal terms are all but agreed between the parties, leaving a transfer fee, likely to be hard to agree upon, the main obstacle remaining.

The Camp Nou giants are known to want to conclude their summer transfers as quickly as possible and have already bagged Spain forward David Villa from Valencia.
