Everton have succeeded in keeping talented youngster Jack Rodwell at the club, after confirming that the 19-year-old has agreed to an improved 5-year contract with the Merseyside club. The promising midfielder was heavily linked to follow in Wayne Rooney’s footsteps in moving to Manchester United, but the England Under-21 chose to remain loyal to his boyhood club.

I’m very pleased that Jack Rodwell has signed an improved contract because it re-affirms Everton’s ambition to challenge the top clubs,” manager David Moyes said on the club’s official website. “I want to keep all the players we have here to make us stronger in the coming season.”

Rodwell, who scored his first Premier League goal in the win over Man Utd last season, also holds the record for being the youngest player to represent Everton on the European stage, when he came on as a substitute against Dutch side AZ as a 16-year-old.
