There were those that felt Manchester United full-back Gary Neville had an outside chance to be part of the England squad for the World Cup, but Fabio Capello has chosen otherwise. The 35-year-old however, doesn’t believe his exclusion means he should retire from international football, an act he labels as an empty gesture.
Neville’s statements come after Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher came back from his self-proclaimed retirement three years ago, in order to be part of the Three Lions squad that will compete in South Africa in a few weeks.
The Man Utd captain is adamant that he would still be honoured to represent his country if called upon and claims it’s the England manager who should retire players.
