Sampdoria have moved quickly to appoint their new coach in the wake of Luigi Del Neri's move to Juventus. The choice of Samp is Domenico Di Carlo.
Di Carlo arrives from Chievo Verona, who he led to a 14th placed finish in Serie A this season. The 46-year-old is highly rated and told the press that no matter how hard it was to leave Chievo, he could not turn down the opportunity to progress.
"It is a painful choice, but for me also a very important professional choice."
The prospect of Champions League football was undoubtedly a huge draw for Di Carlo, with the ex-Parma boss stating: "Clearly it is difficult to say no, personally this is a significant reward as the team will play in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League."
Di Carlo has a tough act to follow in Del Neri and may need to get off to a flying start at Sampdoria.
