Much like the surprise shared by many when Theo Walcott was nowhere to be seen on England’s 23-man squad for the World Cup, Italy manager Marcelo Lippi has also produced some shock value with his final team selection by leaving out strikers Giuseppe Rossi of Villarreal and AC Milan’s Marco Borriello.
The former Manchester United youngster was the more surprising exclusion, as he enjoyed his best ever season for the La Liga side in the last campaign, scoring 17 goals. He was also part of the squad that competed in the Confederations Cup, where he scored twice against the United States.
Italy will kick off their World Cup campaign with a tough test against Paraguay on the 14th of June.
