Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has expressed his willingness to play wherever needed by England manager Fabio Capello. The newly turned 30-year-old is usually played in the centre for his club, but competition for places in the Three Lions could see him played in a more unfamiliar role.

Everyone knows I always enjoy it when I play in the middle," said Gerrard on the club’s official website. "But I’ve always said that if I make it to the final squad, then I’m aware the manager is going to want me to play in different roles and I’m happy and ready for that.”

With the status of first-choice Gareth Barry’s injury still uncertain however, Gerrard could still find himself, much to his delight, partnering Frank Lampard in the middle of the pitch.
