Just hours after being flatly rejected by Arsenal, Barcelona are still confident that they will sign 23-year-old midfield maestro Cesc Fabregas, according to Catalan daily Sport. Having gone into formal negotiations yesterday after plenty of speculation, the Gunners released a statement on their official website saying they had no intention of selling their influential skipper.
The Catalan paper claims however, that Arsenal refused the initial offer, reportedly worth €32M, in hopes of increasing the price of acquiring the talented Fabregas. It is believed Barca are not planning to increase their bid though, but will let the Spanish international, who has publicly stated his desire to return to his boyhood club in the past, try to force the move.
Barca are not expected to make any visits to London to negotiate the deal further anytime soon, with any talks likely to resume after the World Cup.
