Blackburn Rovers veteran Brett Emerton sees Australia going far in the World Cup in South Africa, despite being in a tricky group comprised of football heavyweights Germany, dark horses Serbia, and African powerhouse Ghana. The 31-year-old points to the quality of the Socceroos’ squad for his confidence.

I think its looking good,” Emerton said on Fifa.com when asked about his team’s preparations. “From what I have seen in camp and in training the boys are physically in good condition and everyone is excited about playing in a World Cup. Talent wise we have a good blend of youth and experience and we have the opportunity to go a long way in this World Cup.”

Australia were eliminated in the round of 16 in the last World Cup, going out in dramatic fashion after Francesco Totti scored a dubiously earned penalty in the match’s 95th minute to snatch a 1-0 win.
