According to reports in the Italian press, Dirk Kuyt and Javier Mascherano could follow Rafael Benitez out of Liverpool. It is believed the trio’s likely destination will be Inter Milan, who are currently without a manager following the departure of Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid.
The pair were key players under Benitez, and both would revel in the opportunity to follow the Spanish tactician to a club that has just enjoyed a spectacular treble-winning season.
With Benitez’s departure adding to Liverpool’s disastrous 2009/10 season, which resulted in the club failing to qualify for Champions League football next year, an exodus could be on the cards for the Merseyside giants. Having failed to win any major trophies since 2006, the Reds’ players are starting to lose faith in the club’s ability to compete at the highest level.
