According to Catalan daily Sport, Real Madrid are nearing finalizing their efforts to sign Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and Benfica standout Angel di Maria. The pair are understood to be worth a combined amount of €70M, ensuring Los Blancos will once again be spending a fortune in the transfer window.
Jose Mourinho has made the Liverpool skipper his priority signing for the summer transfer window, citing Gerrard’s intelligence and ability as a quality the current Real squad would benefit greatly from. With the departure of Rafael Benitez as well, the Reds’ future remains uncertain, making the ambitious 30-year-old more likely to leave.
Di Maria’s transfer is looking more complicated, as Benfica are refusing to lower their €40M valuation of the Argentinean sensation. Real remain confident however, that a solution will be found during the summer.
