Manchester City have confirmed that they will not renew the contracts of Martin Petrov, Sylvinho and Benjani. The trio, two of which were purchases by former manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, have found themselves surplus to requirements at the ambitious club, making them free to transfer to whichever club they see fit.

Martin Petrov, who is rumoured to be a target of Aston Villa, and Benjani leave the club after having a disastrous spell of injuries at Eastlands. The duo made only a handful of appearances for the Citizens in the last two seasons, and will have no place in the team’s squad of growing talent.

36-year-old Sylvinho is set to depart as well, having completed his one-year contract with Man City. The former Barcelona man made only 12 appearances for the Manchester club, but was considered an important figure in the dressing room.
