Manager Chris Hughton of newly promoted Newcastle United has insisted, in response to speculation, that he has received no contact from Chelsea regarding interest for 21-year-old striker Andy Carroll. The youngster scored 17 goals in the Championship last season, and the Magpies boss has no intentions of letting him leave in the summer.

I can say 100 per cent that I have not heard anything from Chelsea, to me that is just speculation,” Hughton said on premierleague.com "We’ve got no intention of seeing Andy Carroll leave Newcastle United. The reasons for that are he has the right profile, he’s a young player and he’s got a big future here with us."

Having gone through the youth academy of Newcastle, Carroll has more than on one occasion expressed his loyalty to the club, easing anxiety that the promising striker might leave, despite plenty of speculation.
