England goalkeeper Robert Green has vowed to come back stronger after his blunder allowed the United States to grab a 1-1 draw with England in Rustenburg last night. The 30-year-old spilled a tame long range effort from Clint Dempsey, letting it crawl over the line after England had taken an early lead through captain Steven Gerrard.
"At half time, I walked in, apologised to the lads and moved on" said Green. Adding that, "It hit the outside of my thumbs, do that again 1,000 times and I will save 999 times."
Green went on to perform well for the rest of the game, even if England could not find the breakthrough that would have given them three points from their opening group game. Unfortunately, a cloud now hangs over the goalkeeper and all eyes will be on coach Fabio Capello to see if he keeps faith with the West Ham United man.
