After Robert Green’s high profile mistake against the United States on Saturday, Fabio Capello has been forced to a decision whether to stick with the West Ham United custodian, or put his faith in either David James or youngster Joe Hart. The error caused England to lose their early lead, ensuring the Three Lions walked away with only a single point in their first match in the World Cup.
Despite Green making amends in the second half of the match against the USA, his glaring error puts an obvious question mark as to who will be between the sticks when England play their next match. With only one point to speak of so far, and qualification into the next round in the balance, Fabio Capello will need a goalkeeper that will not buckle under the pressure.
The Italian tactician admits however, that he is still uncertain over who he will put his faith in, saying to the Premier League’s official website, “I decided on Green because he played very well in the last game against Platinum Stars and also against Mexico at Wembley, and in the second-half last night he played very well and made a really important save. But a mistake remains a mistake. Now I have to speak with him, then I will decide what to do."
