Having recently wrapped up the contract extensions of Pedro and Xavi with minimal fuss, Barcelona are having no such luck with right-back Dani Alves. The Brazilian defender has yet to agree to the new offer given to him by the club, with reports on Catalan daily Sport claiming the player is holding out for a bigger deal.

Alves has been a vital piece of the Barcelona squad ever since his transfer from Sevilla in 2008, proving to be a perfect fit with the Catalan side’s way of play. The Brazilian believes he should be valued more than what he is currently being offered, and has refused to agree to a two-year extension.

Manchester City are believed to be tracking the situation, and are willing to part with €50M to capture the impressive defender. The Premier League side are also prepared to make Alves one of the highest paid players on their squad should he make the switch, ensuring that the wage demands he believes he deserves are met.
