After plenty of speculation, Olympique Lyon have finally sealed the capture of Rennes’ striker Jimmy Briand. The highly coveted attacker was being tracked by several Ligue 1 sides, but the team that finished second in the standings behind Olympique Marseille in the recently concluded league have prevailed.

It’s a great joy to find myself in Lyon,” Briand said on the club’s official website. “For me, Lyon is the club of the 2000s. It is the largest French team. Today I have the chance to evolve on the ground in several places but I’ll play where the coach wants. I’ll keep playing with my warrior spirit. I will do everything to score lots of goals and give you pleasure.

24-year-old Briand scored only five goals in 23 appearances for Rennes last season, but was battling a knee injury throughout . The striker is fully recovered however, and is prepared to ply his trade at Lyon.
