After failing to impress in his first year with Barcelona, defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy could be on his way back to Ukraine club Shakhtar Donetsk, according to Catalan daily Sport. The 23-year-old centre-back was a specific acquisition by coach Pep Guardiola last summer, but his inability to adapt to the team play of the Catalan club saw him make just 14 appearances in all competitions.
With Gabriel Milito recovering from injury as well, Chygrynskiy’s place in the club is looking more and more uncertain. Purchased for €25M on a five-year contract last year however, the Ukrainian’s massive price tag makes him difficult to offload, with his former club unlikely to shell out the same amount to reacquire his services.
Barca are believed to be willing to part with the defender for a smaller amount than what was spent to sign him, but are hoping to get a fee that will result in a minimal loss.
