1998 World Cup champions France are on the verge of crashing out of the World Cup, after losing to Mexico 2-0 in their second match of the group stages. Having drawn against Uruguay in their opening game, Les Bleus only have one point in Group A, and will need a miracle in order to qualify for the knockout rounds.

Former France captain Zinedine Zidane was disappointed in his nation’s defeat, but admitted Mexico were by far the “better team” on the night and were well deserved victors. The best player of the 2006 World Cup also expressed his displeasure at coach Raymond Domenech’s decision to leave midfielder Yoann Gourcuff on the bench, which he saw as the reason behind the French side’s unthreatening attack.

France supporters are undoubtedly devastated by their team’s uninspiring displays In South Africa, especially as four years ago, they were watching Les Bleus battle for the World Cup title against Italy.
