England coach Fabio Capello has expressed his surprise at the country’s 0-0 draw with Algeria in their World Cup game last night. The Italian has declared himself at a loss to explain why the excellent form and performances he sees in training day in day out are not being reproduced on the pitch.
"We lost too many passes", said Capello. "It was not the same team that I know, the team I see when they train."
To make matters worse for England, star player Wayne Rooney was clearly disgruntled as he trudged off the pitch to boos from the English support. The Manchester United man turned to the camera and blasted: "Nice to see your own fans booing you. That’s what loyal support is."
With England’s World Cup hopes in a state of meltdown, Capello must find some way of coaxing out those displays produced in training and ensuring that is the England on show in their final, do or die, group game meeting with Slovenia.
