AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has flatly denied any rumours linking the club with a swoop for Barcelona’s disgruntled star Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Speculation was rife that the Italian club were making the towering Swede their primary target for the transfer window, but this has been vehemently shot down.

Absolutely,” Galliani replied to Spanish paper Sport when asked if the capture of Ibrahimovic was unlikely. “In Spain there is a more favorable tax regime, so that Barcelona paid a gross figure significantly below that which would have to be paid by an Italian team,” he explained. "Therefore, it is impossible for him to return to Italy and it is unlikely that he will agree to a reduction of his contract.”

After completing a massive transfer to Barca from Inter Milan last summer, Ibrahimovic’s future is now clouded in uncertainty following a sub par debut season with the La Liga champions and the recent arrival of striker David Villa from Valencia.
