Having previously stated a desire to continue in his post, Cameroon boss Paul Le Guen has confirmed that he now intends to leave the African side when his contract expires at the end of the World Cup. Having led Samuel Eto’o and co. to bottom place in Group E, the Frenchman clearly felt he was not in a position to take the team forward.

After losing 2-1 to Holland last night in their final group game, Le Guen, when asked about his future, replied: "My contract ends and I’ll stop [as coach]."

Cameroon came into the World Cup with huge hopes and many tipped them as the African team to surprise. Unfortunately, a series of poor displays under Le Guen left the Lions looking more than a little tame and it was always difficult to see how the former Lyon coach could continue in charge upon the tournament’s conclusion.
